Good afternoon everyone!
Precision Sport just finished the second install in two days of the all-new Gen II E60 M5 exhaust from Active Autowerke!
A lot of people see the “Gen II” and ask. . .what is different about this versus the Gen I unit? A couple noticeable differences include fitment, adjustability, and muffler size. The Gen I piece took some real patience to get to fit correctly, and was a lot more difficult to make it look 100% perfect from the rear of the car. The reason being, it did not have any adjustability in the hangers, which this new piece HAS! That totally changes everything and now this exhaust system can easily be made to fit perfect. Also, the cans are a lot less bulky from Gen I, so it’s a sleeker design in my opinion.
How does it sound? In my opinion at least, and the few others who were around to hear it. . .AWESOME!! I absolutely LOVE AA’s stuff for the E60, mainly their exhaust, it just screams like an F1 car when you’re on it, but disappears when you’re cruising on the highway; NO DRONE. Even our famous G-Power car with RD-Sport catless headers and AA exhaust DOES NOT DRONE on the highway, and that’s about as close to straight piped as you’re going to get.
Here’s a few videos to let you make your own assumptions on sound. . .this is member “Schafer” who just got this exhaust system installed, as well as the AA power pulley and AA software upgrade.
PSI is now taking pre-orders for the next batch of these exhausts which are due out in a few short weeks, PM me for details!
PSI installed the parts in phases- pulley, exhaust then tune. All products from AA. No dyno was performed prior to any of the install. Two days before the start of the install I had the software completely updated to the latest available which had never been done since its built date of 08/2006. After the factory update the vehicle felt more responsive and smoother. So the first install the AA pulley- my opinion better throttle response was the most noticeable after driving the vehicle a day. The second install the AA Gen II exhaust- much more noticeable power gain and pulls harder in 2nd gear and on, I was not expecting much difference in power only sound. I’m very pleased with the power gain as it excided my expectation. I drove the vehicle for two days prior to the last install the AA tune- the beast is alive, much crisper and even power band, it’s now like the vehicle has been properly tuned and dialed in. I told Frankie at PSI that it’s like when you get that perfect amount of sleep and the next day you are energized, alert and alive! My favorite thing and best mods for the money is H&R springs and tune.
The exhaust sound- I had an Eisenmann race exhaust on another BMW (not M5) and loved it. The sound of this exhaust is a higher pitch then others I have heard. It’s not quite at cold start but my favorite thing at cold start is covering up that horrible cold start cat noise. Daily driving and early shifts does keep the sound down. I will get some videos taken with windows up/down and PSI will post. When you drive the beast like it was meant to be driven the sound has a sweet pitch, it will turn heads and let everyone know you have a V10. As the video posted by PSI shows that when you are in the throttle it sounds amazing. Driving around I will hold a shift point to 4500-5000 rpm and the sound is intoxicating.
The exhaust fitment- It is superb and the best I have ever seen on any exhaust I have installed or had installed. My first exhaust setup was in 1986 on a 1965 Mustang with 351W built motor and I have had an aftermarket exhaust on every vehicle I have owned (I never realized that until I was typing this post). AA got this so right on with the setup, adjustments (new hangers) and fitment.
Overall- I am happy thus far with the exhaust. Only a couple of days driving on it so I will post the end of next week when exhaust has been broken in.
Thank you PSI!
